Leave a Legacy
In the early nineteenth century, having a cathedral in Cornwall was a distant dream. Yet through the determination and generosity of ordinary men and women, this dream became a reality and a cathedral for Cornwall was built here in Truro, founded in 1880. It is a privilege and responsibility to hand on that inheritance into the future.
If you are thinking of writing or making changes to your Will, please consider leaving a gift to Truro Cathedral. Gifts in Wills make a difference to the sustainability of the cathedral and help ensure that work started in your lifetime is continued.
A gift ‘in memoriam’ can also be a wonderful way to remember a loved one.
The cathedral supports Christian Aid’s ‘Faith Will’ initiative - a powerful way for faith to live on and create lasting change, both locally and across the world. Please visit www.caid.org.uk/Faith for details on how to leave a gift in your Will to both the cathedral and Christian Aid.
Every gift is appreciated, no matter the size, and every gift is acknowledged.
How legacies are used
Gifts in Wills help fund the vision, mission and ministry of Truro Cathedral. Legacies will also be used to fund longer-term needs or significant projects. The cathedral’s governing body ‘The Chapter’ has the responsibility for making strategic decisions about how and when resources are spent.
Your gift, your choice
No one knows what the future will hold and needs may change over the years. We therefore encourage you to leave a gift in your Will “for the general purposes of Truro Cathedral” as this will give us the greatest flexibility to use your gift where it is most needed.
Should you wish to direct your gift towards a specific area, such as Christian mission, music or ‘fabric’ (the care of the building and its furnishings), you can do so by restricting your gift. All you need to do is specify the area of activity you wish to support.
Whatever you decide, your gift will make a difference. Any restriction on how to spend your gift will be honoured. In the unusual situation that this is not possible, due to circumstances at the time, the cathedral will contact your executors for their advice.
The cathedral will publicly acknowledge receipt of gifts from Wills in whatever way you and/or your executors feel most appropriate. Gifts can also remain anonymous if preferred.
Making a gift in your Will
Always seek professional advice when making or amending a Will. You can choose to make a cash gift or donate a proportion of your estate (even 1% can make a difference).
Your solicitor or will-writer will need these details:
Name: Truro Cathedral
Address: Cathedral Offices, Old Cathedral School, Cathedral Close, Truro, TR1 2FQ
Your solicitor/will-writer might also ask for our HMRC charity reference number: X7943
Thank you!
Including a gift to Truro Cathedral in your Will is deeply personal and some people prefer to keep their decision private. If you have chosen to include the cathedral in your Will, please let us know so that we can say thank you.
To have a confidential conversation about leaving a gift to Truro Cathedral in your Will and/or how you would like your gift to be acknowledged, please contact: giftsinwills@trurocathedral.org.uk in the first instance.
