Thanks to your support, Truro Cathedral remains at the heart of the Cornish community.  To continue, it needs your help in 2020.

Built by the people of Cornwall for everyone to experience and enjoy, the ongoing generosity of supporters enables Truro Cathedral to continue to play an important role in our now modern lives, striking an important balance to provide both sacred space and common ground.  The cathedral wishes to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone that has supported and donated in 2019 and ultimately enabled the cathedral to deliver over 1,400 services, more than 60 free music events, approximately 50 free educational opportunities and over 140 free guided tours throughout the year. Highlights include:

Offering worship for all

In 2019, the cathedral welcomed an estimated 30,000 people to its regular and special services. Congregations of all shapes and form come together to actively participate and share and support each other; whether for smaller, regular services such as Morning Prayer, or larger services, such as those held at Christmas and Easter. The special services held throughout the year, such as Remember Our Child, and the services of reflection for those affected by suicide, substance misuse or bereavement, offer comfort to the community. Then there are the important services that celebrate Cornish heritage, such as the Feast of St Petroc and Nine Lessons and Carols, and not forgetting the celebration of unconditional love that is evoked in the annual Carol Service for Pets!

Continuing the choral tradition in Cornwall

Honouring the choral tradition since the 1880s, Truro Cathedral Choir continues to make an important contribution to the Cornish art scene. In addition to singing at the daily services, Truro Cathedral Choir performs three concerts each year, most recently in conjunction with the professional musicians of City of London Sinfonia. 2019 choir highlights include singing on Britain’s Got Talent at the London Palladium, various live broadcasts on BBC Radio 3 and CD recordings, the latest of which, ‘Kynance Cove’ is a collection of music by renowned composer Dobrinka Tabakova.

Being at the heart of community music and events

Music is central to the life of Truro Cathedral. In 2019, 60 free community music events took place, from recitals by prominent organists on the famous Father Willis Organ, to performances by community choirs and leading local musicians. The cathedral has once again been thrilled to host prestigious large-scale music events, including concerts by Three Spires Singers and Orchestra, Truro Choral Society and Truro Symphony Orchestra. This year, the cathedral also hosted other important local events and festivals, such as Truro Trend and the Cornwall International Male Choral Festival – the largest festival of its kind in the world.

Truro Cathedral needs your help in 2020 and beyond.

Cornwall’s only cathedral needs £1.3m every year, or £3,560 each day, just to remain open.  As 2019 draws to a close and the possibilities of a new year unfold, there are lots of ways you can continue to support and help your cathedral in 2020:
