Bio

Angela Sones was born in Sutton Coldfield and educated at Highclare School and The Coventry Centre for the Performing Arts.

Angela began learning the organ at the age of thirteen with Barry Draycott and went on to study with Andrew Fletcher and David Saint at The Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, graduating Bachelor of Music with Honours in 1997.

Angela has performed in masterclasses in Paris with Jean Guillou, Daniel Roth, Sophie-Veronique Cauchefer-Choplin, Aude Hertematte, Frederic Blanc and Baptiste-Florian Marle-Ouverard.

Angela is a professional freelance organist, recitalist and accompanist. Previous recital venues have included both Birmingham Cathedrals, Howden Minster, Tewkesbury Abbey, Bradford Cathedral, Newcastle Cathedral, Hereford Cathedral, Worksop Priory, Doncaster Minster, Coventry Cathedral and at the Oxford Colleges, Keble and Exeter.  Angela has also recently played Organ Duet recitals at Howden Minster and Birmingham Cathedral, with her duet partner Richard Hartshorn.

Forthcoming recitals include St Mary's, Melton Mowbray, St Stephen's, Bournemouth, Blackburn Cathedral, Bridlington Priory, Ludlow Parish Church, Emmanuel, Wylde Green, St Alban’s Highgate and Ayr Town Hall.

Angela is organist and director of music at St Alban the Martyr, Highgate,  Birmingham and previously held the position of director of music at All Saints’ Parish Church, Four Oaks for 27 years and has also held acting director of music positions at St Alphege, Solihull and Knowle Parish Church.

Angela has a private teaching practice in Piano, Organ and Theory of Music and is also a peripatetic piano teacher at Aldridge School. Angela is much in demand as a recitalist and choral accompanist.

She is also in demand as an organ and piano accompanist.

Live-stream

The series runs from March to October and each recital lasts around 45 minutes. There is no charge to attend or listen to these concerts. We rely on your support to help with the cost of maintaining the cathedral’s famous Father Willis Organ. Keeping the cathedral’s musical instruments in first-rate condition enables us to put on such recitals.
