Bio

James Perkins BMus ARCO is organist at Berkhamsted School and was previously in similar posts at Haileybury and Bradfield College. He trained at the RCM winning the Walford Davies Prize for organ performance, and graduating with a first-class honours degree. He was also organ scholar at All Saints’ Margaret Street and gained the ARCO diploma.

James has also served as an army musician playing the piano and horn in the Royal Artillery Band and Band of the Grenadiers Guards, covering the Platinum Jubilee, funeral of her late majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the Coronation of their majesties King Charles and Queen Camilla. Alongside his teaching career, he now serves in the Honourable Artillery Company Band in the army reserve.

He enjoys performing music on the piano in small ensembles and has recently pioneered a new recital series at St James’ Garlickhythe in the City of London. James specialises in English and Classical organ music, arrangements and neglected repertoire. He enjoys presenting recitals of distinctive organ music suited to whichever instrument on which he is privileged to play.

Live-stream

The series runs from March to October and each recital lasts around 45 minutes. There is no charge to attend or listen to these concerts. We rely on your support to help with the cost of maintaining the cathedral’s famous Father Willis Organ. Keeping the cathedral’s musical instruments in first-rate condition enables us to put on such recitals.
